Mid-80s I think. Not sure I would call them mufflers as they had no baffles or packing. If I recall they had a tab in there to add a little back pressure and I think their intent was just to make things louder, which they were very successful at.

SE slip ons are not loud enough now eh. Times have changed. I had the first generation SE slip on on my '03 and they were the loudest things ever. I'd swear they were louder than straight pipes, like a megaphone for your pipes.
I have SE racing slip-ons on my 04 fatboy, they sound nice, not real loud but a nice rumble, I have SE slip-ons on my 14 SGS, they also sound nice with a low rumble, the dealer did a stage 1 on the 19 heritage I bought my wife. As soon as I got home we went back to the dealer and bought V&H eliminator 300s and junk the SE slip-ons the dealer put on.

I'm glad you said it because they sound louder than straight pipes to me also if run without end caps. I have two sets of end caps for them, one still pretty loud and the other a pretty nice rumble. They aren't that heavy either. Looking down from the open end you can see the scoop that directs some of the flow through the baffle.
I have Python 2.5 slash cut slip-on mufflers installed on my 2011 Iron 883, they are manufactured by Vance & Hines exclusively for Drag Specialties. I have had mine for twelve years without any issues, they are loud, but not loud enough to be neighbour haters.
After seven years the coating was looking rather tired, in 2019 I had them powder coated in a black gloss heat resistant coating. The coating is holding up well after five years.
Can you recall the powder coat product and whether or not there is other colours please?
The powder coating manufacturer is AkzoNobel, the product is called Interpon HT 550, it is heat resistant to 550 degrees Celsius (1022 degrees Farenheit).
Specialised Coatings in Halifax applied mine, any local powder coating specialist shoiuld be able to supply and apply Interpon HT 550.
As Interpon HT 550 is a high temperature coating for exhaust systems, barbeques, stove pipes, etc, it is only available in black.
