Lithium rules! Best mod I ever made on any of my half dozen sportsters!

Starts first time, every time!

I will never recommend a drag specialties or parts unlimited battery. Never lasted more than a year even on a trickle charger over the winter.

Spend an extra 50 and go lithium

What happened?

To be fair, it wasn’t 100% the battery’s fault…

The main parts guy at my dealership told me to keep checking the battery status light over the winter; as long it was green, the battery didn’t need to be hooked up to a tender. Well, I did that, and the light was always green. When I went to start the bike up in spring, nada. The battery was totally dead/100% discharged. I took it back to the dealership and they gave me a full refund for it. I ended up buying a Deco AGV with that money off of Amazon for less than $100 and installed it myself.

Any bike with EFI should probably be on a tender if not ridden for more than a month.

I agree on the battery tender. Just be sure it's also for lithium.

I believe your generation of Sportster uses a sealed AMG battery.

My vote: Stay with AMG avoid Lithium.

Many like the manufacturer Deka, which I believe can be purchased from Battery +.
I have read many comments about "arcing" from non-OEM batteries at the cable connector/ install area.
A battery life of three years could be the statistical life.
Plugging into a battery tender is an asset.
There are many choices of brand, but there are only a few actual manufacturers, and again, I would buy where purchase and warranty are easiest.

FWIW... good luck with your new battery choice.
Thanks so much for the input. I haven't even looked yet. All of my automotive woes seem to have come all at once lol. I have parts for my Jeep as well that I need to install, while working on an application for Nursing School.

Hmm.... Thank you for the diagram, I like it. I will check into what HD has to offer for their battery selection for the Sporty.

A lot of the lead acid chargers have a desulfate stage that would be bad for lithium.

Common today both types of charger use a constant current and constant voltage charging regime so in theory you would only need one charger.

They are not trickle chargers as you may know them. These new devices are smart and monitor the battery. They stop charging when the battery is fully charged but will start charging again when the battery voltage falls.
