Battery Questions

To be fair, it wasn’t 100% the battery’s fault…
The main parts guy at my dealership told me to keep checking the battery status light over the winter; as long it was green, the battery didn’t need to be hooked up to a tender. Well, I did that, and the light was always green. When I went to start the bike up in spring, nada. The battery was totally dead/100% discharged. I took it back to the dealership and they gave me a full refund for it. I ended up buying a Deco AGV with that money off of Amazon for less than $100 and installed it myself.

My take on batteries has two points: ease of purchase and perfect fit.
Here in Calif, we have the chain stores of Batteries Plus, O-Reilly Auto Parts, Napa Auto Parts, O'Reillys Auto Parts.
I believe your generation of Sportster uses a sealed AMG battery.
My vote: Stay with AMG avoid Lithium.
Many like the manufacturer Deka, which I believe can be purchased from Battery +.
I have read many comments about "arcing" from non-OEM batteries at the cable connector/ install area.
A battery life of three years could be the statistical life.
Plugging into a battery tender is an asset.
There are many choices of brand, but there are only a few actual manufacturers, and again, I would buy where purchase and warranty are easiest.
FWIW... good luck with your new battery choice.

What's the difference? I know the difference in the battieries, but whats the difference with the trickle chargers?

Common today both types of charger use a constant current and constant voltage charging regime so in theory you would only need one charger.
They are not trickle chargers as you may know them. These new devices are smart and monitor the battery. They stop charging when the battery is fully charged but will start charging again when the battery voltage falls.

A lot of the lead acid chargers have a desulfate stage that would be bad for lithium.
