Default Rear axle adjuster

Hello there,
I am new to this forum. I’m coming here because I can’t seem to find any part number or information on my rear axle adjuster. It snapped off due to a poor mom and pop shop probably over Torqueing the rear end. Also, can I ride it to a shop to get it fixes? Any information will help.
cheers.

If you want help you need to tell us year and model of bike.

Just for information some Sportsters have the axle nut torqued to 100 ft-lbs.

This is a link to a parts finder.
You need the year and model to search.

Sorry,
It is a 08 sporty 1200 Low

i believe he torqued it to 120 pounds since the adjuster broke once already. I’m no mechanic hence why I’m here but I don’t think he was much of one either
cheers.

HD parts catalogue here. Select year then model and then select sub parts.

Get your self a factory service manual. Even if you can't do the work you will know what should be done including how tight to torque fasteners to.

I know the part but nobody carries it anymore. Also is it safe to ride to a shop?

These have a 5/16-18 thread, there is no way that they should be torqued to 120 foot pounds, it should only be 120 to 180 inch pounds (10 to 15 foot pounds).

The axle nut torque value is 95 to 105 foot pounds and it is 5/8-14 thread.

Am I to assume some nitwit cranked down on the adjusters with the axle nut tight?

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. Do the rear axle was torqued to 110-120 ft/lbs I believe not the adjuster. But one had broken after taking it to them and now I’m dealing with the same problem. Wondering if I can’t just grab a 5/16 18 bolt from a parts store.
cheers.
