Theres a little rubber button on the back of the speedo. Pressing it will switch the odometer to the trip meter. The bike is in the trip meter mode.
Press the button until the odometer is displayed.
As I mentioned, the photo was from an ad on the interweb. The asking price is in the stratosphere for a twenty year old bike. I did like the color, that's what piqued my interest.
