Default 1973 XFE, Model Code 9D

Has anyone ever seen an honest 73" (9DxxxxxH3) 1200 Sportster?

I cannot find any reference to anything but a 1000cc Sportster at that time. Where did you get these clues about a 1200cc model?

Are you sure you're not confused with a 1973 1200cc Shovelhead motor?

These are the only Sportsters manufactured in 1973:

Production Information:
  • XLH 1000 (9,875)
  • XLCH 1000 (10,825)
As previously stated you may be referring to FXE1200 9DH3 Super Glide (1973) not a Sportster.

I was just surfing the net, asking tons of questions and getting bits and pieces here and there. I am glad there is nothing there cause I already got "73 Model" my spreadsheet finished and don't want to have to update it that drastically. All I have to do now with the 73 models is add them when I find them...the codes add them all up!

THANKS!!

They claimed 1973 9DxxxxxH3 for a few early rare examples with 73 starter parts that became the 74 model (H4)

I’m no expert but I’m fairly sure the first 1200 Sportster was in the Evo motor.

Question

There was a HD Sportster "XLT-1000" in 1977, but it seems it wasn't offered here in Germany?
Link: https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/mo...T1000%2077.htm

I don't recall ever seeing an XLT back then, or later, here in Germany or in neighboring countries?
This model was probably only offered in the USA.
There are very few references to the XLT worldwide today; perhaps someone here knows more. Thank you!

Mike
PS Thanks for the above info, "sportsterpedia" is a great source!
