My wife has a 2004 883XL and wants to change out the stock bars with mini apes but not sure which size to go with...she is 5'6" and she doesnt like the placement of the controls on the stock bars. The question is what is the max size I could go with to NOT have to redo cables or the brake line? I was looking at 7 or 8 inch with a max of 9 inch...will these sizes work with the stock cable/brake line?
Any help is greatly appreciated, trying to get everything she wants done while it is still cold in PA before it gets nice out.
The highest bars you can install without extending the wiring, cables and brake hose is 8".
If you want to go higher that 8", you have to take into consideration the expense of not only the mini-apes, but also the cost of a wiring extension and brake line kit, the $'s can mount up very quickly.
I'm just over 5'6 and mine came with 10" T bars on it. They were pretty comfortable, until you got over 60mph. Combined with forward controls it was hard work to hang on at 70+. I don't know how you guys do the tall stuff.
I'd guess the t bars are about the same as 8-9" apes if you account for the stock 'risers'.

8 inches will work without any other mods on most bikes. I put a set of 10 inch mini apes on my Dyna and the only issue I had was the front brake line had to be bent a little. However the Dyna has very short risers on it, so thats another thing to consider.
