I thought the pop up mechanisms was an expander when you pushed it down and that's what held it in.

I had the same issue on my 2016 48 when i bought it- very difficult to remove.
I lubed the oring with a touch of grease- along with the channels that the stick uses to go into the tank- havent had a problem since. Dont glob it on- just a lttle bit.

If they did not waste so much engineering time on a stupid dipstick they might have been able to save the Evo Sportster design form extinction.

I think I saw a fix where people were replacing the o ring with a thinner one. Rdhigh also posted a good tip above to lube the o ring and grooves.

Maybe a slippery oil?

Plastic expands 10 times more than metal when hot.

Maybe the China boys can get it right with their Harley.. Or we need to stop by Walley World and get this..

I dunno, mine comes right out. (2014)
I did wipe the O ring and grooves with a little motor oil once. The pop up/down deal is just for looks to make the cap flush with the tank. The actual stopper doesn't move.
