As I wrote, there is a page telling you where everything is at. I never knew about it for years. Once you find that page, you will find it helpful

I used the manual for over 20 years and never saw that page. Once I did it cane together.

Also there is only 3 place it can be. So ain't that hard.

In the Sportster manual it has "Under left side cover" for location. Does that mean the cover has to be removed to see it or does it mean that it is lower down than the cover on the bike? It isn't mentioned in the index of the FSM.

It is mentioned in the electrical diagnostic manual though.

I am by saying some factory manuals have a page that tells you where they all are . How is that not helpful? I am talking Harley factory manuals. Are they completely different by model!???? Maybe by year.

I don't know every year. We wasted a lot of time talking about this. All I am saying is he might have a page that lists every connector and location if he looks for it

Also there are only 3 places it could be.

This is nothing to do with Sportsters and especially not 2021 year models.

Explain how it's helpful?

It is helpful as I said that some years they put it in the manual. To be honest I am not convinced they stopped putting it in. But I don't care

Why waste all these posts. It did not even warrant a second post.. if you feel the need you could have had a second post saying the practice has been discontinued.

A factory manual is a factory manual regardless of model.

It is helpful because someone else might read this and check for their bike.

Thanks for that. Like you said, the Sportster Service Manual only says "under left side cover." If you knew exactly where it was and what it felt like, you could maybe dig it out without removing the cover. But in general it's probably better to take it off. When the bike's on the sidestand, you have to look in there from a very low angle in order to see the DLC. The fact that it has a black cap when the internet had me looking for a red one was also unhelpful.

In any event, I now know where it is. Thanks, everyone!

Is it that hard to pull the cover and look,? But I am 99% certain you do need to remove the cover.

Only 3 places it could be

It's not hard to look, but it's hard to find when you've never seen one and every description of it is inaccurate. You keep saying there are only 3 places it could be, but there's a nearly infinite number of places it could be. And you can look right at it a dozen times and not identify it because the described red cap isn't there.

I figured it out because it was the only cable with any kind of cap on it. And the only way I found it was by following each and every cable to a junction until I found one that had a dead end. If that illustration from the electrical diagnostic manual had been in the Service Manual, I would've found it in moments, wouldn't have posted here, and wouldn't have met some nice people and others who'd argue with a wooden Indian.
