I've seen plenty of front ends for bikes that say they fit whatever bike but the lock won't work. And there are plenty of springer front ends for many different degrees of rake. So I think it's crappy if they say the lock and angle are the problems.

I was talking to a guy at the dealer today and he recommended going to a local custom builder and getting the neck chopped and lock removed and just put a different neck on there. Might be something to think about. I don't know how much something like that would cost, but can't be anymore than a bolt that says Harley on it

You're right. It probably wouldn't be more expensive than a bolt with a little bar & shield. The only problem with chopping the frame is that you could never trade the bike in a Harley dealership if you ever wanted to. The dealer here told someone who chopped the neck on their bike that they couldn't accept the bike on trade in because they could not guarantee the integrity of the frame. Best bet would probably be to swap out the entire frame. It would be more costly, but that's probably the safest route to go. I'll probably wind up just doing a little powder coating on the front end that's on the bike now. It would be nice if someone came out with a springer front end for it, though. I guess I'll just keep my eyes open for one.

I can't speak for all dealers, but minebarely glanced at my Sporty when I traded it in. If the job was clean enough and maybe only the lock was taken out (if that was the problem) I wonder if they would even notice. Plus, you could I'm sure sell it in cycletrader or eBay it and get some good money since it would be rare to say the least.

Bah-humbug. This can be done without cutting the frame or cutting/modding the fork lock. I can't believe that Jr and Sr can pull the crap that they do but no one can/has come up with a Springer front end for an 04+ Sporty yet. It's out there, it just doesn't specifically say, "Fits 04+ XL883/1200". Maybe its finding the right parts piecemeal and fitting them together. But I can't believe that no one has cracked the code on this by now.

Hehe.....wanna know what I think? Probly not, but I'm gonna say it anyways...

Chop the F*** out of it and MAKE it work....The same thing was said when I wanted to chop my fender struts off...look at my sig pic....my rear fender is a mutant, and when I wanted to relocate my oil tank with akeg on a swingarm frame, and get rid of the battery mount under the seat.....and I've already figured all of it out....if you really want it done, it can be done, I assure you.

Although I gotta say, for modification purposes, a late model isn't your best bet to begin with....you should go with somethin a little older and more versatile if you want major changes made.

The only thing I'm still pissed about is that I can't figure out how to mate a kicker onto my 98, but even that's in the works, lol.
