I know the answer is no but... I can't buy a bigger bike do to my budget. I'd like to buy a Harley and not something else. So... as a 200lbs guy will an 883 be ok?
Well how much exper. do you have, will you ride solo or two up, do you want new or used. I am 6' 190lbs. got a used 1200 for 7300.00 06' carb bike with 35 mi.on it and i couldn't be happier with what i have, Ride a lot 2up but some solo. Personally i want every drop of power it has, looked at 883s ended with 1200, right choice? Yes.
Yes, you will be just fine. It's just your ego that you have to worry about. I rode an 883 for several years (five to be exact) before doing an 883-1200 conversion, I'm not on the thin side either and it was fun!

YES. An 883 is just fine for you.I weigh 235 and carried a passenger with me on my 883, and rode all day long at 65+ mph with no problems. Don't let anyone tell you an 883 is too small. A 250 is small. An883 will do whatever you need.
My ego isn't too fragile Every time I've been to a dealership they always tell me "you need the 1200 at least." I'm glad to hear others are happy with the 883.
The 883 is a fine ride. It can do whatever you want, and don't let anyone tell you differently. Like harleyxlc said above, it's more an ego thing than anything else. Remember, in 1957 the Sportster, a.k.a., the original Super Bike, made its debut with 883cc's and could whip any Harley Big Twin in town - and Big Twins at the timehad 74" engines(1200cc)!
I'm always intrigued by the question on how fast or, can an 883 do the job. My 883 is all I probably will ever need as far a strength and speed. The better question is, how long can you keep riding at a sustained speed of 70-80 MPH because the bike can and, will do it. To be honest, thats about all the speed you really can do legally so, the answer to your question is "you bet". Ride safe.
