My wife burned her leg on the exhaust pipe of my bike last week. She has been treating it, but it isn't getting better. We went to urgent care yesterday and they gave her some different antibiotic creme. She doesn't think it is helping either.
She just informed me that she isn't going near my bike again. She says she is scared of it now. Soooo, maybe I don't need that touring bike afterall. [&o]
Tell your wife that every woman who has ever ridden on the back of a bike has the exact same scar. I do. And while it took forever to heal, everyone who saw it said "motorcycle burn?" - its more common than you think. And its not the bike's fault. Its hers for dismounting on the wrong side. Same as it was for me. But the bike was wayyyyy to fun to ride and I wear my scar proud. Of course, I now have my own bike so no more burns for me...................
That's really too bad... And if you are like me.... You probably feel guilty about the whole thing (even though it isn't your fault at all). I agree with cyclchyk..... If the passenger, or rider for that matter, isn't careful, this will inevitably happen.... I hope that she gets better very soon.
I burned the hell outta my leg within the first 10 minutes of owning my Sporty. I ride in shorts for about 7 months outta the year. It only took once, for me to learn EXACTLY where those pipes are.
I feel for her, that can be painful. My burn turned all kinds of interesting colors before it healed.

Get her a thong and chaps for protecting a ladies tender areas
Next ride + Jeans. A few months ago at a bike night there was a lady in shorts that was getting off her ol mans bike. Her leg touched the pipes and her reflex reaction was to quickly turn her leg out which ended up dislocating her knee and the lower part of her leg. So a burn is bad but a dislocated leg is worse.
