for what its worth your turning 2700 rpms at 60 mph and 3000 at 70 mph when running in 5th gear.
What's the red line on a 1200? My bikedoesn't have a tach.

here as new view to consider. I was having the same problems. hought it was my shift technique, nope that proved ok, so I thought primary chain, nope indy proved thast wrong idea as he said primary chain being to loose or tight will just cause noise. he told me to check plugs, the back plugs fouls out easy if your in town a alot as I am. Checked the plugs and wow, he was right the back plug was fouled, changed them both, runs great agian.Just a thought I hadnt seen any body else address

I used to run my Busa up to around 60 or 70....................and then shift into 2nd.

Those were fun, I mean fun days. Now I amhaving a different type offun!

I can't imagine running theSportster at 90 in third gear. I am not going to try.

I've done it more than once .Only problem I had was the mirrors vibrating out of place. I got some new mirrors...I'll be honest, I think there was a few revs left to spare. I read the bike will top out around 125.
I quit running her up so high because it seemed a waste to be deaccelerating thro 4th and 5th

I've had my 1200C just a week and noticed it too....It bothered me at first until I learned to open it up and keep the revs up....The Sporty is a slice n dice machine....It demands you ride it harder than a full size Harley. She is made for tight twisties and redlights, not commuter 4 lanes.....Don't putter around on her like you would a hog. If you catch yerself in slow moving multilane traffic, then learn to put the cages behind you by using all lanes and remember to keep the revs up.

Wind her out thru the gears and downshift early....you will get the feel of it if you push it.

It's a stupid mistake that Harley forgot the tach, so learn to listen and get into the bike from the *** up.

In this last weekI figured something out. The 1200 sporty is NOT a starter bike.....Only a seasoned and agressive rider can wring it like it's designed to be ridden....so get into it and don't be skeered.....you got a whole lot a motorcycle clamped tween your legs....find it.
