I haven't had this problem on a bike but I did have a cage that would loose a coil every year. The coil was mounted on top of the engine manifold and heat from the motor would literally slow cook the coil. After I movedit to the firewall, no more problems.

Yep...

The 2 things that kill electronics faster than anything else are heat and vibration.
I don't know where your coil is mounted, but I bet on an older model bike like that it gets a lot of vibes and some decent heat too.
I don't know if this would help, but on a couple of cars that I built, I mounted the MSD ignition boxes on homemade vibration dampners.

Go to Lowe's and look in the drawers with the generic hardware. They sell rubber corks. I cut them in half and drilled a hole in them to make rubber isolation feet.
It's worth a shot and it only cost a few bucks. In combination with cHarley's suggestion of moving it away from the heat, this may buy you a little extra time.

The only other thing that I could think of would be to check or replace the ignition control module as it may be demanding too much of the coil.

Good idea on the vibration damper washers. Also you can probably find some rubber faucet washers in the plumbing department, ready made with a center hole in them.

A 75 model bike won't have an ICM, he'll have points and condenser, so that should not be an issue it they are in decient shape..

That may be why Harley moved it to the upper frame in front of the motor in later years.

This is a good place to resize.

Then you'll have to save it, and use a host like Picturetrail, or Photobucket. You can use the attachment option in the reply, but I've never done that, so I won't try to give you bad info.
