Default Switch housing help

I was replacing my switch housings to a chrome set this evening. Everything was going well until I got to the right side. When I separated the top from the bottom a brass clip fell out and I have no idea where it's supposed to go. It's about 7/16" by 1/4". It's "A" shaped. I tried looking for it in the service manual but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to the service manual, you should get the Parts manual. It has exploded views of every component of the bike. I will look in mine this evening and see if I can get the info for you on this part.

You're not talking about the brass throttle grip ferrule that holds the ball end of the throttle/idle cables, are you? They were about $2 at my loca indy motorcycle service center.

I think he's talking about a little, slightly curved, piece of brass shim that is part of the throttle lock, but will need to look in my parts book to make sure.

No sweat. That goes between the brake switch and the housing inner wall. It makes sense once you get the brake light switch back in there you will see it isn't tight against the inner wall of the housing. That shim slides in there to keep the brake switch up against the opposite side where the lever touches the button.

If that's unclear I can post a pic later today.

Good luck.

What will be really fun is trying to get that little 'C' clip on the throttle lock in the new housing. You might have been lucky and had it preinstalled but mine wasn't. PITA to get it lined up and then get the leverage to get it clipped in. My secret, for you free of charge, is to use a small drop of dielectric grease on the end of needlenose pliers. That gives you enough stickiness to keep the clip where you need it until you can line it up on the screw post. Then you can close the pliers in place and the clip will pop in place.

Again, if you need a pic, I can post one later today.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I believe that bensonjv has the answer I'm looking for. Definitely not one of the ferrules, those I got back in place pretty easily. I was worried that it may be used as some sort of ground for the electrical switches but I guess the housing itself could be used for that. Bensonjv, if you don't mind please post a pic at your convenience, I would greatly appreciate it. The little "c" clip actually went in pretty easy but would have probably been even easier had I used your method as the clip actually went flying out of the housing when I tried to put in place. I was lucky enough to find it on the garage floor.

I share your pain on the clip thing.

I'll post a pic of the other clip in the next few hours.
