Default General Motorcycle Question

My girlfriend is interested in a v-star 650 or a suzuki 650, the v-star has a V-Twin and the Suzuki has just 1 cyclinder. What would make one type of engine better at that size, and why. Sorry its not a sportster question but this is my home.

Of course we are all biased toward Harley here.... However, I will say that I have ridden both bikes in question and the Yamaha is definitely a better ride.... Suzuki cruisers are very un-impressive in general... For some reason every Suzuki we have in our used fleet runs like crap... Their sportbikes are world beaters, and I think that is their primary focus.... The Yamaha has okay power (for a 650) and rides very smooth.... It is also a much better looking bike IMHO... There's my .02

My wife had a V-Star 650 and really liked it. It had reasonable power andwas very smooth. Very low seat hieght and low center of gravity. Good history of reliability and also has a great range of accessories so you can bling it out. I have no experience with the Suzuki.

As a general rule I'd say that with engines of equal size you would find the single cylinder engine to have more low rpmtorque and the twin to have more horse power because it would rev higher and have its torque peak at a higher rpm. So the Suzuki would have more pick-up from a standstill but the Yamaha would have better acceleration at higher revs and would have less vibration.

The Suzuki 650 is like riding an old One Lung Triumph. She might like it. It vibratres like an old Harley. It back fires every time you let off the gas in a big way too. It's a very unimpressive, cheaply made bike that will be worth half what you paid for it ten minutes after you bought it. Go used either way if you are going metric. Let some other fool eat the two grand loss.

Why can't you persuade her towards a Harley? If you guys are serious about each other, it would seem to me that both of you owning Harley's would be more practical. Same tools, similar accessories, same or like experience's, dealerships, etc. Think about it in that way.
