I recently purchased a 2003 883R with a (1200)kit and is appears to be cold natured. After running a few minutes and I start to ride, I get a pop from the carbureator until it really warms up and then seens to go away. If I release the throttle sometines it will backfire or rumble through the pipes. Any suggestions??
If it only happens prior to the motor warming up, it isjust the nature of the beast (carb.). Don't change jets or adjust the carb based on what the bike does before it's up to temperature.
let the bike idle with choke for a minute from absolute cold, then release it slowly and let the bike idle until you can feel the heat coming off of the engine from a few inches. I do this with mine, after i can feel the heat i do a quick ride to the end of my block and back.
i just start the bike 5 mins earlier, and i dont get carb backfires or anything with this way.

Hey joseph, did you ever get to changing out your chain and sprocket yet?

my bike is going to an indy, there going to take care of everything. i took the forums advice and decided not to ride it in the condition it was in. although i had them inspect my bike at a dealer and the sprockets were good enough to just switch chains. they appeared in worse condition than they were.
