dish soap is harsh you are never supposed to use it to wash a car or bike with etc. the reason for not waxing is the paint is dry but its not cured some paints take 3 month to fully cure just depends on the paint company etc and by waxing it locks in the evaporating chemicals and the dish soap also stips chemicals for the paint
You only use dish soap when you want to take the wax off and really clean it, and then you should put wax right back on. It is not to use every time as it is harsh and strips off clear coat and wax. There is no way I would ever use windex or the like to clean my bike or car. Use a good car soap to clean your bike, or some s100.
you don't put wax on the denim paint or it will start to turn shiney.
exactly. So I see no need to worry about using dish soap on these finishes.
I just wash mine like normal with Meguires car wash soap and dry it with a chamois then do nothing else to the denim painted parts. If in between it gets bug splatter or whatever then I will spray some quick detail spray on and wipe it off. Hopefully that quick detailer won't make it turn shinier after a while. The owners manual insert says to clean spots with windex so maybe I'll start using that instead.
Yep that's the same thing I saw AbySs, I guess it was an addendum to my owners manual instead of actually in it. I wondered why it said Harley-Gloss was ok to use on it. Isn't that some kind of wax?
I just now noticed it said not to use S-100 total cycle cleaner on it. I don't think I have gotten it on the paint before but I'm gonna be extra careful to keep it away from there from now on.
Regardless if the paint is denim or glossy, the only time one should use something like Dawn is to remove existing wax and grime. Once this is done, always use a quality wax or polish. The fact that the denim bikes still have a clear coat on them is to protect the paint, therefore the paint will not turn shiny if it is waxed, just better protected against the elements.
