I looked thru the threads and haven't seen this one, so pardon me if it's been mentioned already. lately I've notice sometimes whehn I cut off the bike and remove the key, the gauge backlight stays on. This is when the switch is in the "Off" postion. I've also notice sometimes if I toggle the switch from ACC to Off and then hit the horn button, then the backlight will go off. If this something that's normal and I've just never noticed it, or do I have a problem? It's a '06 1200 Lowrider Sporty. Be good to find out either way. Thnaks to all. And ride safe this holiday!
The only time my spedo backlight stayed on after shutting down and removing the key I realized I had removed the key with the ignition switch in ACC not OFF.
That isn't normal. Possibly a switch problem, but since you mentioned hitting the horn button resulting in the light going off, I would also suspect a wiring problem. With the horn button located next to the hi/low beam button that could be causing a loose wire to move back into it's proper place.
Since I'm terrible at tracking down faulty wiring, If it's still under warranty I'd take it to the stealer. If you continue to leave the light on the Speedo, eventually you'll get on the bike to discover a dead battery.
