OK, in the last couple weeks my 2007 883L has gotten a strange feeling about it. It seems like it is not handling as before, kind of unstable, at either slow of fast speeds. It feels like it wants to drift off line in a slow of high speed turn. Kind of like it would feel like if your front tire was trying to follow a groove in the road or on rain grooves cut in the interstate overpasses. I am 55 years old, been riding since I was 15, have had lotts of bikes over the years and have checked everything I can think of. My stealership that I purchased from were great before the purchase, and nothing to brag about since, so I am trying to figure this one out on my own. I bought the bike new in april and now has 14000 miles on it, with no real problems till now. Any sugestions much appreciated.
The first things I would check, tire pressure, tire wear, rear wheel alignment, front fork steering bearings (fall away adjustment). At 14,000 miles, you should be about due for tires.
I would agree with everyone else, start with the tires. I know when I had my 05 Sporty that my rear tire didn't make it more then 9,000 miles, started to get that unstable feeling when the tires were bad. Also may get it if your pressure is too low.
the cheapest is to buy the tires, put them on yourself, a little more to take the wheels and tires off and someone mount the tires for you. You can get out as cheap as you want, depends on how much you are willing to do.
check the tires first as stated above, correct air pressure, not worn out. I know this sounds silly but sometimes we forget the simple things. If the tires are ok and you have laced wheels, check the spokes. I almost found out the hard way about that one.
It's been my experince that when a bike wants to drift it is one of two things, wheel alignment, or one of your front shocks is leaking and the pressure is not equal.
Road Demons have attatched themselves to your Sportie...you need an Exorcism. lol Seriously, when my 05 Sportie C got to 18k miles the tread was really thin on the tires (front and back) but it still handled well. Then one day it just started acting odd..the rear tire would slip in turns..kinda like the bike wanted to get out from under me.Is your problem limited to or seem tyo come from the front?..the back??...both?? Needless to say,I got new tires..used the Dunlop 404 on the back and the Dunlop 401 on the front.Great results thus far.Good Luck>>>David
