I brought my Sporty into the dealership about 8 weeks ago for an oil leak. Dealership fixed it, no problems, GREAT service. Thursday I got a recall in the mail, apparently HD has been sending me recall notices since January regarding the front fender voltage regulator?? (I’ll admit I’m horrible about going through my mail, since 99% of it is junk mail, but I’m pretty sure I would have noticed something from HD.) My only question is why didn’t the dealership check for recalls when they had my bike?

The weather here is not the best for riding, but I’m going to put on 900lbs of leather and bring her in before the weather gets really bad. I’d wait until spring, but I don’t want to be without my bike when the weather finally turns….

By the way GREAT college football game on ESPN 2 tonight, BSU vs. Hawaii for the WAC championship and a BCS bid. At half time Hawaii is up by 2.

Got the same notice. Said the exact same thing on it, they have been sending me notices since the beginning of the year. Only, I just bought my bike in June. [&:]Same story, had my bike in just before the weather started turning cold and I have since put it in storage until spring as I don't have all my proper riding gear and it won't be too much longer before the streets are white with salt. I guess they don't really check on the recall status of bikes when they are in for service or repair unless you specifically request them to.

Who knows. They are supposed to though. When I worked at a car dealer they checked every vehicle for open recalls.Make them pick up your bike and return it if you can.It was their fault they didn't check.

I had my regulator replaced at my 1k service. It's not a big deal. The recall is because under extreme conditions the fender could catch on it causing a out of control riding condition. I now have 5300 miles on the bike.

Thanks for the feedback. I never thought about the dealership picking up my bike. Typically I wouldn’t request that, I have leather and I’ve ridden in WAY colder temps. (The first time I took helm of a Sporty it was only 11 degrees. That was COLD… BTW, girlnads freeze at 15 degrees.)
I don’t want my bike in the shop when the weather turns nice. I’m not going to wait for three weeks in the spring to get her back since everyone will be in for their tune ups.
As far as riding my bike to the dealership tomorrow… I live in soccer mom hell. My house is right between the people who have WAY too much money and Wal-mart. Yep! HDK will be at my house at 12 pm tomorrow picking up my bike… or whenever the dealership can fit me in.

Damn BSU lost…. Good game though… Hawaii has a great team.

Had mine in 2 times both with an appointment for the service and other related issues, I told them to preform the recall and both times no voltage regulator brackets. if this is such a hot item why are there not brackets on the parts shelves?

My dealer said they only check for recalls being done on your bike when it regards an entire model line. For example all the 1200N's needed the heatshields added to the exhaust...so they would check all nightsters coming in for service that it has been completed. Now if the recall is for VIN# specific, they get no notice over the computer system alerting them that your bike falls into a campaign unless they research it or you bring them the notice from HD.
