I have a small Memphis Shades sports shield. I bought it off of a forum member last year. I get a little buffeting on the highway from it. But I only put it on during the winter time. It keeps a good amount of cold air off my chest. Otherwise, I have had it off all year. If I took a long highway trip I'd put it on. I like the feel of the wind hitting me in all other cases.
I'm 5'10" and I only get a small amount of buffeting at high speed but nothing that is out of control. The spec's on my sheild are in my first post and link. I used to have a taller sheild on my M50 but what I seemed to notice with a taller one is that I found myself having to lookthrough it and it wasa bit confusing. During rain storms it was really hard to see out of and I had a lot more wind buffeting then the one I have now (not sure why). I think the perfect height for a WS is to have it sit somewhat lower then your normal riding vision so you are not looking through it. Someone else my have another opinion on this but that is what the HD dealer told me. However, my WS is a lot lower then my standard vision and mainly seems to be more for wind and temp control.
just wondering how tall you are? I am curious which is better the standard height or the low profile?
I recently installed the H-D standard height compact detachable. I'm 5' 10" and my line of sight is a couple of inches over the top. I get no wind blast under 50 mph and minimal blast over that, most of which comes from under the windshield and up my legs.
Very nice, glad to hear it works for you, that is going to be my next purchace so it's nice to see all the positive feedback. I will only use for long rides but I guess that's what everyone says and then they leave it on. I have had windshields on previous bikes so I think I can go back and forth.
HDHornet, glad you got some good feedback here. This is why I enjoy forums, they help you make buying decisons and help you out with problems and, you get to meet a lot of neat people.
By the way, you may want to edit your post and take your license plate number off. People can find outwhere you park you HDfrom that.
People see where I park my Harley Davidson everyday when I drive it into my driveway. But thanks for the advice, if it gets stolen then it will help me make up my mind on getting a new bike.
