That's a sweet ride...Probably had the powerglide.

I had a '61 but it was a straight 6 4dr with 3 on the tree.......It had a HUGE back seat and rodesmooth asa tuna boat in the harbor.

I miss it. I doubt whoever bought it ever got all the peter tracks off the upolstery

Had a 283 stroker in it that I built myself. I kept the original powerglide, and the darn thing could hold 5.0 stangs. I used to love to look over and see the looks on the young punks faces as a 2 ton slead held them even

ORIGINAL:isn't any key or key ring being buffeted around in the wind.
I have a keyring which holds the bike key &lock key only. The lock key has only enough length to hit the ignition switch cover, not the frame. After 100K miles sone of the labels on the ignition switch are a bit scratched. If I put a house or truck key on the ring then I would hit frame or rocker box.

Run your bike with the ignition key ONLY.... No key ring or any other keys attached.... You will have much less drag/weight.... Also less chance of any extra bs banging against your tank/forks etc. When you take the key out, put it in the tiny little pocket above the regular pocket of your Levis (tighter pocket and nothing else goes in there).... When you get home.... ALWAYS put the little key in the same exact place..... Just some useless stuff that I personally learned the hard way

Exactly Imisplaced my fob one time what a pain in rear. I put the fob with the rest of my keys and do not leave it attachd to the ignition key.I know where it is at all times now.

My Fat Bob same thing, key only for ignition/fork lock. Was told by dealer to not keep in ignition or it will bounce out. The FOB is the real key for starting it anyway with the 'smart' security system.

Iceman, there is nothing wrong with the ignition lock on your Sporty. The key is held in place and cannot fall out when in run position. The other poster is correct that you should not keep that key on keychian with several other keys because it swings n sways and can cause damage to ignition switch or perhaps get broken off.

JosephGarcia, my Road King uses a different setup. It has a barrel style key and it cannot be left in ignition switch because a spring pushes it back out....On the touring bikes, you use key only to lock and unlock ignition and fork lock, then you put it in your pocket.

Default RE: removable ignition key

The key that came with my sporty, used, will come out in any position.
I made a new key and it stays in the lock when in the on position now.
Whether on not the key comes out on a bike that it is not intended to depends on the wear and bitting cuts on your key. If the key is worn down it will pass the tumblers, or if the lock is worn and sloppy it will allow the key to pass also.
They are not supposed to come out on the sporty.

As stated above, you don't want to put a lot of weight on any lock with a ring full of keys. It could damagethe lockearly, by bending metal in the locks keyway over the tumbler chambers, and in rare cases actually bend the tumblers on some bikes, but they still seem to last on most cars.

The tubular locks have a system that the key can be removed in the lock, on, or acc position.
I don't and won't keep my key in the lock cause it's just too damn easy to loose it.
The switch can be turned from on to off to lock without the key in the lock at all, but to actually lock the switch from turning you have to turn it to lock and turn the key to the lock position so the switch won't turn.

i dont know any vehicle that you can pull the key out and still have it running.. thats a basic tihng right there.. its why the key exists
57 Chevy or was the 68? Too many brain cells have gone down the highway since then- at least mine would run fine with the key pulled out!
