I spend time on the Triumph Tiger Forum. There the 90's Tigers are called "Steamers" (dont know why), in 02 they changed the bodywork on it so it wasa lot more curvy and these bikes are called "Girlies", even by the people that ride them. Its a name applied to a model of bike, not a label attached to the rider.

This whole thread seems to be about security issues. People may call it a Nightie, so what, embrace the Nightie-ness.

Don't take **** so seriously. If your buds aren't pickin on ya, nobody likes ya. When ya get old like me, it's just great to have someone to talk to. Old folks don't care how stupid you are.

Haha I agree Black Lion. I also put a disclaimer in my last post just so no one goes postal.

Right now it's damn cold. I plan on leaving here about the 10th of Jan to head south toward San Anton for warmer weather. I was born in Okmulgee, but moved to Tulsa in 64. All in all, Okla is a good place to be FROM, if you know what I mean.

Well dude, It just ain't right to go around makin fun of others bikes.

If we all started makin fun of everyones bikes how long would we have a board til most got sick of it?

That and I would just love to see some of these guys start pokin fun at another mans bike in person ,you know like at a rally. They wouldn't! cause they'd be getting a A$$ whooping!
I've owned and ridden Harley's since the early 1970's, and it's only been during the past few years that I've heard so much bickering about the model of bike you might happen to own...

Sure, we use to mess around and joke about whatever bike someone rode, no matter what model it was. But anymore it seems to be 'model specific', with people actually getting offended and lashing out at other.

All of this seems to have started when Harley's suddenly becamesuch as fashion statement,which caused an explosion in newriders and new bike sales. Don't know if people are just thin skinned these days, overly defensive and just trying to justify their model of choice, or whatever....

There was a post a few days ago dealing with "Baggers", and when it became so popular to own and ride them, and why 'baggers' are suppose to be for 'old guys'. Of course, the thread quickly evolved into owners of variousmodelstaking cheap shots at each other.....

Thiswas my reply to the whole thing......

"After reading through all these replies, it appears that too many people are hung up on the 'image thing', and it's taken to an extreme.

Gets to the point where people start taking personal jabs at each other, for nothing more than the fact that an individuals choice of ride is different than their own.

Guys I ride with could care less what model a person rides, as their rideis an individual preference based upon their wants and needs. Their money, their choice.....

Seems to be more and more common and accepted these days for Harley owners to argue with each other about why one model is superior to another, and why various models are 'suppose' to be ridden by an established age group.

Anymore it's not just the "Harley vs Metic" bashing, it's also the "Harley vs Harley" bashing...

Hard for me to understand why Harley riders can't get along and enjoy the ride, instead of spending all this time and energy putting each other down.

Reminds me of the old Latin saying;

"Cornix Cornici Oculos Non Effodiet"

Which loosely translated means;

"A Crow Doesn't Rip Out The Eyes Of Another Crow"

Anyway, just my opinion of the whole thing, which I realize won't change a thing... It's kind of like a car wreck.... You hate to see when it happens, but you can't help but watch..

Yea but it ain't right to call others f'n a$$holes and fagit biker wannabee'seither. Although it does spice up the board from time to time.

Wow, what an interesting thread - I usually don't read "off topic" stuff... however, as a Nightster rider, I was intrigued! I am everything you all mentioned in your postings! I am Nightster rider, a girl (and a girlie one at that), I call my bike a Nighty, I am also gay! I ride because I love to ride- I used to ride pillion behind my Dad, then behind my boyfriends (a long time ago!) and now I ride my own and after years of riding mostly European (Beemers, a Ducati) finally bought my first Harleywhen Sporties went EFI & the Nightster came out. ILOVE mybike!!! I love America and love thatwe all have the freedom and privilege to choose whether and what to ride (and what too call it).

Yeah, I havegrown thick skin in my life and enjoy the back & forth bantering- that is what makes life interesting & worthwhile! If everyone liked Nighties, I wouldn't want one. I grew up around others'insecurities - those who feel they know best, own the best, do the best andbelieve the rest of us are idiots, all without trying out what they judge or walking even a few yards in your shoes. Life is too short to let them get a rise out of you!

I am in the process of renewing my plates and want a vanity version- I am thinking MYNITIE is the one I am going to go for Whatdya think?
