Default Electrical problem.

Hi friends,
I got a sportster 883 89 model (tuned to 1200) and i have a charging problem.When i ride my harley with lights on my battery is goin down.When i ride my harley with the lights off my battery is charging and i got no problem.My battery is new.HELP me please cause i really miss riding my harley.. Thanks.

It's likely the stator or voltage regulator . Step one is to measure the voltage across the battery with the lights off and the motor reved up to about 2000 rpm. The voltage should be between 13.5 - 14.8 VDC. Turn the lights on and redo the same test, the voltage should still be in the same range. If not you will need to test the stator and regulator. The lightsput about an 8 amp load on the charging system.

I have done that test and the volts are not the same when i have the lights on.Tommorow ill tell you exactly the voltage.

Sounds like the stator is taking a dump. Do the voltage tests and still don't discount the stator even if it does pass the test.
