Thanks for all of the advice so far. I do like the chrome but I also think the nightster is a beautiful bike. I have been on both bikes and checked all stats out on the HD website. At the Harley shop at least once a week. Love going in there. I have a friend who is the manager of the store so I go by and say hello frequently and get to see all the new bikes as they come in. So far though sitting on the nightster they have and the sportster low, I have been able to flat foot both of them. I plan on ridding to work alot this summer. The only issue I have with the nightster is I was told by the Harley Dealership that you can only ride one person on the it. I have a 5yro that I plan on putting on the back of my bike so who knows. If anyone has ridden two people on your nightster please let me know.
I ride with my wife and my son from time to time. my son is 16 and isn't much smaller then me. I will say it's not the best for long 2 up trips, but none of the sportsters are.
I'm 5'8" and absolutely love my 2007 XL1200L. Given that you are a few inches shorter, I'd certainlyrecommend the mid-controls and adjustable highway pegs that I have. I purchased the Sundowner seat which probably wouldn't work for you as itlifts you off theground by an inch or two. I hear that the Reach Seat should work well though.
While I love the sinister look of the Nightster, I find myself frequently stopping and staring at my Dark Colbalt Blue Sportster every time I walk past it in the car park (I live in a condo and drive a car as well as the riding the bike). I just love the balance of the blue, black and chrome.
As nice as the Nightster is, it's the least versatile of the fleet. It is a bar hopper/ bobberdesign and to me it would spoil the bike to put bags or windshield on it for any kind of extended riding. I have the 1200 Custom and appreciate that I made it into a mini-tourer for my solo trips.

Hi Dr Plastic. Interesting difference in the colour tone between our two bikes. I like your colour-matched oil tank cover. I've been pondering that for a while. Do you have a larger photo you can share? Here's mine ...
You may also consider the Nightster is about 26 lbs lighter then the 1200C. I don't mind the low fuel range on my 1200N because I don't mind stopping to stretch my legs every 100 miles or so.
In reality there are alot of differencesbetween a 1200C and the 1200N besides looks. Do a model comparisonon the HD website.
I am 5' 3-1/2". I had an 883 Low, then in 3 months traded it in for the Nighster. I needed a bit more oomph and was ready for it. I LOVE the Nightster ... it fits me perfectly, although I did need to go with different handlebars as I was reaching just a bit too much with the stock bars. Height isn't the only factor ... some people are high waisted with long legs, others low waisted and short legs, and yet the same height! So you do need to sit on all the bikes you are considering. I can't feel REALLY flatfooted on most of the "bigger" bikes because they are too wide for me. Even on the Dyna Low, my feet are not firmly planted on the ground.
I was in my 3rd riding season this past summer, and had no problem going up from first an 800 Suzuki Intruder to the 883 Low, then to the Nighster (should have bought the Nightster in the first place, when I traded the Suzuki, but I didn't think I'd be ready for the extra power. I was wrong).
I personally like the looks of the NIghster better ... I like the looks of the peanut tank, and my gas mileage isn't bad. I can go 115 miles usually, before needing to think about gassing up. The most I've gone is 126 miles, and I still wasn't totally empty.
LoL! Pearch you did just like me. I went from a '97 Suzuki Marauder..
to an '07 Suzuki M50....
Small World!
I concur on the other bikes being wider. The M50 was the worst. It was almost 12 inches wider (between the thighs) than my 'Marauder. This is what I don't like about the Dyna's and Soft tails. I have a 27 inch inseam and could not flat foot a Dyna Lowrider.

That is a beautiful blue on that Sporty! Wanna trade? The color matched side covers are available thru Harley's "Color shop" for around $160. Here is some more pics as requested....
