Hey all , need some input . A friend of mine said that I should put a 240 wide tire kit on my 883L. What are the pros and cons ? I've been looking at the kits and they all are pretty pricy. Other than the cost what say you ? Pros and cons. Anyone out there that can photoshop a pic of the 240 on the rear of an 883L would be awesome . Thanks for the input in advance . Phil ...
You'll screw your cornering. it'll turn-in like a drunken sloth and it'll make more road noise. It'll look cooler if that's your thing. I prefer cornering, so it'll never be something I do to any of my bikes.
I don't see the point of doing anything that would result in poor handling. If "looks" are important, other upgrades would look good without compromising the integrity of the bike.
My opinion:
I would spend the $$ on things that are more useful like performance parts. Maybe a full 1200 or 1250 upgrade including cams, heads, exhaust and fuel delivery improvements.
As said above, it will corner like schit. IMO it will look like a clown bike. But it's your bike so customize it towhat YOU like.
I will look like crap, cost a lot of money and make the bike handle bad. But heyif your buddies thing it's cool go for it; and besides they don't have to ride it.
I am looking at doing the same thing to mine using this kit
Cost on ebay is between $700 and $800 depending on seller but make sure it is a Dragon Kit
as there are some other cheap ones (been researching for 4 months)
I would suggest you ride a scoot with a 250/300 fitted so you know what they feel like.
I did and yes they are harder to turn in but you get used to it after a few miles.
I am still deciding if I will do it or not, I have other factors to think of as well.
Bigger tires mean more traction but, in my opinion, the 883 doesn't deliver enough power to warrant a tire of that size, and its going to adversely effect the handling of the bike as it will make it more difficult tolean itinto a corner. If you are doing it for looks then beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so its up to personal choice but (since you asked for opinions)I thinkit would look stupid.
Also, all the mods will add more weight to the bike, so you will probally increase your 0-60 time.
