Hey all , need some input . A friend of mine said that I should put a 240 wide tire kit on my 883L. What are the pros and cons ? I've been looking at the kits and they all are pretty pricy. Other than the cost what say you ? Pros and cons. Anyone out there that can photoshop a pic of the 240 on the rear of an 883L would be awesome . Thanks for the input in advance . Phil ...
It'll make your bike handle different... that's a pretty wide tire....
Then you've got the rear fender.... wheel....
Now if that's what you want.... shouldn't make no difference what people here think...
I've got as much in my bike as I paid for it new... I dont put any stock into what other people think...
Then again... I have no desire or thoughts of ever getting rid of it.... well until she just won't go no more.... but if it's like the other harleys I've owned... it just might out live me....[8D]
Bigger tires mean more traction but, in my opinion, the 883 doesn't deliver enough power to warrant a tire of that size, and its going to adversely effect the handling of the bike as it will make it more difficult tolean itinto a corner. If you are doing it for looks then beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so its up to personal choice but (since you asked for opinions)I thinkit would look stupid.
You know what they say... opinions are like a$$ holes...everyones got one. If thats what you want and have the diposable income then by all means go for it but the money would be better spent elsewhere. I've read a number of attempts in the past on going big tire on stock sportys over on XLF and Sporster.org and the results have been...short wheel base + overly wide rear tire with skinny front= stands up strong in corners and tends to want to high side. Most of the 200+ sportys are those running modified or aftermarket frames. With a bike that's already tall & top heavy you need length to leverage the steering with a big tire outback. Sportbikes with short wheel bases and wide tires have the geometry to compensate sportsters in stock form dont.
Also give Pat a call over at www.ledsledcustoms.com as they do lots of customizing on sportstersand offer wide tire kits. Find out the pros & cons first before spending the money with the chance at making your bike difficult to ride.
