Default FOOT PEG REMOVAL

I have a new set of pegs to replace existing set. On the pin that goes through the pegs there is a split ring holding that in in place. I would like some suggestion on how the get that ring off without breaking or damagingit. Is there a special tool? I am in a very rural area but do have Napa / Autozone...

Also - have a solo seat and no need for rear pegs. 2 alan bolts holding peg fixtures to frame. Tried to get those bolts loose with no luck. any suggestions here?

Thanks

You need a set of snap ring pliers.

There is a special tool. I got mine at Sears, I think its called Spring Clip Pliers. I've gotten them on and off without the special tool, but the tool does make it easier. I've run into problems with the clips deforming when I've taken them off, so I now keep a small stock of new ones, they are quite cheap and available at your HD dealer, maybe also at autozone.

Make sure you get the correct size slip ring pliers. I believe the size was 8.

Looks like you are already on way to buying the snap ring pliers, but if don't have luck use a small flathead screwdriver to spread the ring apart and pull the clip off pliers. If you deform the ring it can easily be bent back into shape

Those rear peg bolts are on tight as a mother, with blue loctite. It would be eaiser if you could find you a set of allen sockets and use a long handle ratchet for the leverage but if all you have is a little L shaped allen wrench just find a piece of pipe that fits it snugly and use that as your leverage.

for those particular snap rings, I used 2 nails and pulled them apart. It was the easiest way I could get those off without deforming them and they go back on just as easy with the nails.
