my sporty makes a fst clicking sound when trying to start. it fails to start and the headlights dim. Is this because the battey is dead

Maybe not "dead" but weak almost for certain. Try charging it up overnight with good slow rate charger (2 amps or less) for MC batteries like a Battery Tender. These modern batteries take longer to charge fully and too strong a charger will damage them.

was there once too many times wiht a previous bike - battery is low - youl be good to go with a full charge, make sure to disconect the battery first - don't need to remove it just disconect the positive and ground to a head bolt.
