RE: How many people do their own work on their bikes?
As much asI can ,which is most of it.All those roadside repairs has taught me much.I do have my limits,I'm not equipped for all jobs,but I'm also cheap, so if Iget stuckI'll try and get someone to talk me through or show me before I'll pay. I think it's important to know your motorcycle and learn as much about it as you can 'cause in the end YOU'RE the one that rides it
RE: How many people do their own work on their bikes?
I've done all mine. Only time my sporty ever saw the dealer was the 1K service, 'cause I wanted the stamp in the owners manual from the Italian dealer. (That was also the nicest experiance I ever had at a Harley dealership.)
RE: How many people do their own work on their bikes?
i build mopeds and work on small engines, i am a very mechanical person, but i would rather have a shop do the work on my bike. just a preferance. ill go into my carb and clean it out if i have to though

883->1250 conversion (with Indies help)
All wiring, iginition, coil, tank, fenders, fork sliders, All carb/intake work, Custom seat work, Drilling and installing Apes with internal wiring, Blah, blah, blah, yeah...never been to the dealer...It's been a blast, and I would do it all again and probably will. I love it!!
RE: How many people do their own work on their bikes?
Have always wrenched my own. That's where the fun and pride comes in... Knowing that the bike is soley mine, everything on the bike I have done myself. Hard not to beam when someone asks who did the work and I smile and say "I DID!!!". Makes the riding that much more fun. Plus, its my **** on the bike and if something goes wrong I know who to blame.
RE: How many people do their own work on their bikes?
I have a bad habit of not wanting to pay anyone, to do anything for me except cook and do dishes which is why I eat out nearly every meal (wife does'nt cook). One of my fondest memories as a kid was my Dads advice anytime I asked him how to do something mechanical...."go buy the manual and don't be scared!"
