No offence taken at all, I too call it as I see it.

Back to Topic: $200 sounds reasonable for me to put some brand new shocks, that will handle me (might need the HD Springs, tho )

get new shocks with adjustable compression and rebound. or, if doing ebay, track shocks from a fxdx--they have these adjustments. the spring is only to set static sag and return the shock to normal position, you need control over compression damping especially.
fwiw i tuned suspensions professionally for years.

Thanks for all the info/opinions.

I guess the first thing I need to do is check and adjust my original shocks. I have a manual for the bike which I bought after buying my used bike. I hope to hold down the amount I spend to make the bike run right for me.

I have found the progressive suspension web site. http://www.progressivesuspension.com/ which led me to a local dealer for them. I have contacted them looking for a price on a set of 418 series shocks.

The other brand, Works Billet Shocks, led me to some very high prices I can't afford. WOW..........

Any other brands that might be suggested which work well for you all?

Thanks again for the help/suggestions.

Today I picked the bike up from being at the shop for a new rear tire. As I was getting on the bike I asked about the rear shocks adjustment. He adjusted the shocks for me showing me how and which spanner wrench was the correct one to use. He said the shocks had 3 adjustment cams points and it was set at lowest point. Shocks are now adjusted to middle adjustment and I now know how to adjust further if needed. On the way home the bike felt much better without bottoming out any. It also felt great to get that free adjustment and lesson from the dealer. Rear of bike does set up a bit taller I think when no one is on the bike? I see more of the top of the rear tire. I can't prove this as I did not measure the bike before and after the adjustment was made. And the bike has a new rear tire now also.

I'm still going to watch the bidding on those shocks at E Bay the next few days. They would look good on my bike. Which gives me a few days to test the shock adjustments made today.

Someone mentioned the shocks on e-bay are missing the top grommet....which they believe would be nearly impossible to install...IF you could find one. I don't know about that....but I'd check them out carefully.

EDIT....I just looked at them on E-Bay.....they look Perfect to me......If I needed them I'd jump all over those babys!

I was actually the one who mentioned the missing gromment. I think there are Two sets of 1200S shocks on ebay and yes one was missing the gromment. I have the FULL 1200S suspension on my 05 1200R and just love it. Since I installed everything I have Never bottomed out on Any road conditions. Also they were a straight bolt on affiar. I even was able to use the stock mounting bolts to mount the shocks. Not sure how they would fit or look on a 1200C. the shocks are 13 1/2 from center hole to center hole and yes they raised the rear of my bike about a inch. One of the really nice things about the 1200S shocks is both rebound and compression has like 12 different adjustment points so you can dial in the type of suspension you want. In other words, you can have my 1200S suspension when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Finally someone mentioned the rear shocks from a fxdx. I dont think these will work on a sporty but dont know this for sure.

Something I hadn't seen before... a set of Koni shocks for a Harley. I had a set of Koni's on a 250 dirt bike years back and they were awesome. If I had an R model, I'd be sorely tempted. Ebay Item number: 4605056502

I had the bottoming out problem with the 05 but then I am a big boy. The 06 - must be the luckiest in the world, no prblems at all - no bottoming out and I actually didn't swerve to miss a few dips and man holes - they have been tested and they pass
