Default Rear Shocks

Rear shocks bottom out every once in awhile. I'm 225 Lbs or so. Stock rear shocks on the bike. What adjustments should/can I make to them? Or should I be looking at replaceing them? And with what? Should I be bidding on a set of 1200s shocks now at E Bay?

Bike has 7000 miles on it now and is new to me.

That's what I'm looking to do. I'm looking at the Progressive 412's. They are about $180 or so. I'm saving up to get them in a few weeks. I just can't stand the stock shocks.

Check the Springs, they are "load" adjustable, sounds like they are set to lowest load. Spanner wrench will take care of that, I'm 245 and no problems, one notch from top setting.

I'm 240 and I set mine on max pre-load after I noticed them occasionally bottoming. They feel pretty good now and haven't bottomed since. Can't say the same for the front forks. I think the shock pre-loads were set on the middle position from the dealer.

My wife and I ride 2-up quite a bit and it also has bottomed out. I adjusted the shocks to the highest setting and have not had a problem since. Like ****** said, you can adjust them so they will not be so soft. I too am looking down the road at a pair of progressive shocks for a smoother ride for the wife. Good luck!

Mine shocks are at factory setting, if I would raise them up.......how much higher will my Sporty set? I loved how my 05 883L use to set. And if I would get some progressive shocks would they bottom out, at the lowest settings.

Truthfully, but I might be wrong, if you adjust your shocks up, I don't think it will change the height of your scoot. That adjustment, I think, is the pre-load for the shock. But like I said, I'm not sure. The only reason that I do say this is when I did chenge the adjustment on my scoot I saw no difference in height.

Well I might be a little heavier than most of you guys, running about 285lbs. Even at the maximum preload, good cracks in the road will cause me to bottom out. The really scary part is if you are trying to turn while the bike bottoms out, it really upsets the handling.

Personally, the stock shocks aren't worth a darn, but I'm coming from riding a rice rocket where handling in curvy roads is very important, and if it weren't for the shocks on the Sporty it's not a bad ride on the twisties, its actually quite a bit of fun not having to run @ 6000 rpm all the time.

No offense Dude but 285 is a Big Man. Bike is designed and seat heights measured for advertisement considering a rider of 180 lbs. So I imagine a man of your size would bottom it out. I mean no disrespect, Hell I'm 245, I aint no pip squeak!

Stock Shocks Suck. I'm 185 and I bottomed mine all the time. When I jacked the pre-load all the way they were too stiff.
I bought a set of Works Billet Shocks. Not cheap........but man what a difference. I also put Works Perf fork springs in at the same time.
Night and Day difference in the ride and handling.

Someone mentioned the shocks on e-bay are missing the top grommet....which they believe would be nearly impossible to install...IF you could find one. I don't know about that....but I'd check them out carefully.

EDIT....I just looked at them on E-Bay.....they look Perfect to me......If I needed them I'd jump all over those babys!
