Default Handlebars

I need to find something a little more comfortable than my drag bars I don't really like them. I prefer to lean back and the drag bars make me lean forward. I think 10" mini apes would be good but I don't want to loose my speedometer (how would it fit without risers it mounts on the gas tank side of the bars). I am looking for a little bit higher rise and more pull back. And something a little wider. What do y'all suggest?

I think the risers are 6 inch. I would love to keep them. I don't really have the cash right now for extended cables but the clutch cable is long enough for mini apes and the hand control cables have lots of wire wound up in the risers. The throttle cables are too short for mini apes I think but if I can get them fairly cheap I might do it.

If there is anyone that wants to trade drag bars for mini apes or something that entices me I am all for it. Although I might need your bars first since I ride to work most days.

I've been thinking 10" mini's myself for the comfort reasons. I am not sure of your risers deal. I think on my Roadster my tac/speedo will work with the minis. Anyone know for sure? Finding the right length cables will be key.

If I get a set of Wide Glide handlebars and remove my riser what will I do with my top bar clamp with the lights in it?

Look at a set of Dyna Low bars (31" wide, 5" rise, 9" pullback). You may have to change to a longer brake line but you shouldn't have to change thecables or extend the wiring. The throttle cables will need to be routed outside the forks instead of through them. They also look OK with the stock riser.

How many more threads can be started on bars - please do a search as there are heaps of them already.

Look into the Buckhorn style handle bars that sportster use to put on their bikes. Go to your local HD parts dept.ask for buckhorn bars for a sportster then see if they will let you go over to a sportster on the floor and just put it in the position you want and sit on the bike to get the feel. I have a 2008 1200 Low; changed out to a 4.5 straight riser and changed the theLow handle bars (nice rise anyway) to the old style buckhorns. Pulled out the wires some (plenty of extra length). Rerouted throttle cable to outside forks and rerouted clutch cable to behind the forward controls ( replaced mid controls) and tookthe cable away (top ofrubber adjuster cover) away from the clamp. Straightened out the brake line (metal portion) a bit and removed it from the clamp that is screwed to the top tree. Got some clear tubingI had lying around; puta split in it and covered a portion of the metal brake line tubing. Then just putone of those black plastic tie downs around it and the top part of the fork tube and everything works. Will get a braided brake line whenI can afford it. Buckhorn bars @ HD $50. Risers $30 aftermarket.

I actually found happiness with a set of Sportster Sport handlebars that are wider and higher then the stock 883 bars, but not as wide as the current 1200R bars.

I can dig up the part number if you are interested.

I have a set of stock 883L bars. If ya want them, just pay shipping. They have about a 5" rise I think. They were looked much more comfortable than any of the Custom series stock bars, and a bit higher too.
If you need more measurements, just say the word and I'llgo check.
I have no idea what shipping might be, but NJ isn't too far from Pa.

I put buckhorns on my Nightster (see sig pic). I liked the looks of the stock bars, but I'm short, and the reac was killing my back. I love the handling with the buckhorns, and now have decided to keep them rather than switching to mini-apes, which I was going to do originally. I decided I like the looks of the buckhorns, especially since so many people are putting the mini apes on ... I like having a different look! I do know I had to get a longer brake line, that was it. My buckhorns were a great deal. FREE from a friend!! Can't beat that. Oh yeah - I am going to still order a riser that will be another inch (or 2 maximum) so I can then tilt the buckhorns slightly closer to me, but still have them at the right height level. The Nighster comes with (I think) a 2 inch riser, so I'll go with a 3 or 4. I'll have the parts guy at the dealer help me pick the right ones. They are really pretty much O.K. now, but I think the riser will make it perfect for me.
