Default Cutting the risers on the custom...?

Looking into some apes for my 1200 custom. I haven't warmed up yet to the "extended" look with the stock risers. Anybody cut the risers to a shorter length without problems...? I seem to remember seeing that listed here at one time but, can't find the thread...

Thanks for the help!

Just bought some used Dyna 2" risers off ebay. I have not heard of cutting them. You can sell your stock risers for $20 on ebay and get the used Dyna 2 inchers for about the same price.

The Custom Sporties hide all the wiring inside the risers. Relocating the wiring can be a real PIA, especially if you aren't expecting to find allthat in there.

I just cut some NT 6" riser down to 3", actually turned them on the lathe. just remember that if you can cut them down you still have to drill and tap the holes.

I don't see how you could cut the stock risers and covers on a Custom and have them look decent. I also don't think the wiring would fit inside any longer.

Man don't cut your stock risers they are worth a fortune on ebay. I just removed the stock 1200c risers from my bike and bought a cool old set of risers from an old FXR. The wiring can be a pain to deal with but if you are determined it can be made to lookOK. On my bike I comletely rewire the front of the bike and put the plugs under the seat instaed of at the front of the bike. But overall I think any bike with apes looks better with short risers.

Don't cut Custom risers....it's NOT worth the effort and won't turn out right...buy some new risers and relocate your deutsch connectors...you can actually hide them under the tank or the seat. You can get factory wire colors off J&P for about 5 bucks a roll....or you can just use the same gauge and re-run them using cheaper wire....just a hint though, make sure you do them ONE AT A TIME and use the original wires on BOTH ENDS to prevent a screw-up and the pain it will cause trying to fix it.

Don't forget to get a new speedometer bracket, the 'C' model mounting offset is different, it will not work for sure.
