Default hyper charger question

Here's a question for those of you with hyperchargers. When the butterflies are wide open...will it suck in water if it's raining? I've been thinking about getting one and some pipes and doing my own stage one, but I don't know that much about them....they look cool and everyone seems to say they work well...but I ride everyday, rain or shine or cold or whatever....it wouldn't work for me if I couldn't ride in the rain.

I would imagine they would suck in rain, bugs, bird ****, or whatefer will fly into it while riding. also those two little holes can't move all that much air (especially at high speeds when the wind resistance at 70-80 MPH is pushing those butterflies shut). If the butterflies were mechanical(like a top fueldragster's) instead of vacuum actuated (or if you rigged it so the butterflies stayed open all the time) it would more than likely work better.
Bottom line is they look cool but in all reality, a SE Heavy Breather or forcewinder (with water sock for inclimate weather) would be a better choice if you are lookin for true performance.

I have been caught in the rain a few times and had no problems with water. If a small amount of water did get sucked in, it would likely just de carbon the valves which is a good thing. You aren't going to suck in enough water to hydralock the engine so I wouldn't worry about it. The butterflys only open when vacuum is 0 under acceleration (idea is quick throttle response) they are closed at cruising speeds.

ah ha! I had thought they would be open most of the time....ok cool. I'm still weighing my options but I was kinda leaning toward the hypercharger.....it's a gadget...and I love gadgets. lol

There is a hole on the bottom/back end of the Hypercharger that will allow any significant amount of water to just run out of the unit. This same hole is what prevents the Hypercharger from actually functioning as a ram air intake. Excess intake air escapes through this hole rather than being "rammed" into the carb.[:'(]

Its also why the hypercharger is a form over function AC. It barely rates as an upgrade, a stock hamcan with a K&N filter moves 4 times as much air...

If Iran one I would rig a slider that would close that exit at will.
