Got a little riding time in today, sometimes when I go over the cracks in an overpass I feel like I am riding a rigid frame. Is there anyway to stiffen the shocks in the back up a bit, they seem to have too much travel or my *** is too fat
Most rear shocks have a preload adjustment, at the bottom of the spring the retainer should have"steps" around if, if you turn them they will stiffen/loosen the preload. After market shockoffer another option, Progressive makes H.D. shocks in many lengths that many here use. I haveprogressive 412 12.5" on my 1200C,much better than stock, I'm 6' 195 and do a lot of 2 up riding. Your needs may vary. hope this helps.
What year ?

i wanted to do this to my bike, i noticed those step things on the bottom
do you need to compress the spring to move it? it looks like it to me
what are the details of the steps involved to adjust them?
I have progressive shocks, and there's a spanner type wrench you need to adjust the preload. I was told when I bought the bike and the spanner handed to me, "Don't lose this" so I assumed they are not readily available, but with ebay and the internet I find that had to believe.
I have noticed the black thing on the bottom of the shock as well, but of course don't know which way to turn it or do I have a tool for it. My bike is a new 08 883 sportster. I imagine if you were about 180-200 it would work out fine, but they are soft as hell from the factory.
