Default DAMMIT!

it was raining all day here in so cal, and it is a clear night tonight supposed to rain alot tomorrow.

so its 12:00 AM, im riding around, hit the bar my girlfriends father owns, say hi to him, and then move on just to get some riding in before tomorrow.

about a mile from his place and 2 miles from mine, my gear shift lever snaps at the connection to the clamp that holds it on the post!!!

AARRRGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!1

AND I WAS STUCK IN FOURTH GEAR!!!!!!!!!! MORE ARRRRGHGGGHHHH!!!!

luckily there was an open gas station accross the street, I walked the bike in, holding the clutch, which is a real bitch when you are forced to hold it.

the gas station also happened to be a repair shop, a 2 in 1 kinda thing. and they were open.

the guy let me use a wrench to get the bike into first, he also offered to weld it back together, but its alluminum so we couldnt.

I ordered a replacement 6 months ago from my indy shop and its been backordered or something for that long, but now i have to go there tomorrow, and bug him for my money back, or for a new one on the spot. he saw the condition my old one was in and guaranteed me a new one before the one i had would break.

and if he cant provide i have to pay 50 freakin' bucks for a chrome one at the stealer. and i have to pray it fits

well it LOOKS chrome, are the new parts alluminum? or chrome plated steel?

good thing i dont work weekends, I have to days to search for a new one. i got no other transportation besides the bike hahah, except for cars borrowed from friends and family.

also my throttle lock star screw stripped, and i realize how difficult it is to get a bike warmed up without it. before, it was "set it and forget it" now i have to baby it till it stops fighting back.

my frame is missing the kickstand spring post thing, and someone put a small clip into a drilled hole, and my new kickstand puts alot more spring tension on that little home made fix, so it snapped off a week ago. I use a small 8 inch bungie cord to hold it now. to set the bike down requires i take off the cord and let the stand fall and rest the bikes weight on it correctly not to let it roll back and make the bike fall. and pulling it up means i have to clip one end of the bungie cord to the loop "attachment" thing on the end of the kickstand, and wrap it around my rear passenger footpeg, then bring it back so it holds tight enough to keep it from scraping.

lots of small little things (save for the gear shifter, which is pretty serious) that make riding less pleasant every time i go out.

does anyone happen to have a spare lever to send me? as long as it is free from defects and works as intended, thats all that matters. i dont get my next paycheck for a week and a half, and if i am forced to buy that $50 one from the dealer i will have to borrow money, which is never fun, they always want interest when i pay them

i swear my entire next paycheck will go towards everything on this bike that needs fixing, the wiring, kickstand, levers, adjustments, chain, new rear fender, carbuerator tune up, fix the leak around the pushrod cover and new brake pads.....

rant/vent over..

JG........I've got a shift lever I can send you. It's not chrome but it could probably be polished pretty good or.........painted [sm=smiley20.gif]
Should only cost a couple of bucks to ship(maybe $6.00? give or take)PM me and I'll send it right out. Also,if your ever in a jam check out eBay,I see stock chrome shift levers on there all the time for maybe $15.00 or so.Anyway get in touch with me andI can send you the one I've got....................I've also got a set of 2" drag pipes if your interested. They aren't in the best shape but they work. They were painted a couple of years ago(need new paint) and still have some header wrap on them which is in OK shape. You can have 'em too if you want.

I went through the same thing when I got my old Sporty a couple of years ago.Keep plugging away at it.It took me a little while but I managed to get all the bugs out and haven't had any problems in a LONG time now.

I feel ya, after I laid mine down, I put about 2K(+) into it, but just one question...why didn't ya just order a shift lever from J&P??? They're like, 20 bucks, if not less, I think...? And does your carb have a choke on it? If so, use that to warm your bike up...I've NEVER used the throttle lock on my bike.

sounds to me like lack of work with all the things you say is wrong .wiring, kickstand, chain, fender, carburator, tuneup,p ushrod tube leak, brake pads ,that reminds me of my customers they bring a laundry list of things that need to be fixed but cant understand why the repair is so expensive .let me guess it,s over due for an oil change also !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually Joe's been putting alot of work into that bike. In the beginning he got a bike that was ridden hard and put away wet. Now he's trying to catch up with all of the neglect and people knocking it over with Jeeps, while still trying to keep it running as a daily rider as well.
I give the guy credit where credit is due. Alot of guys would have just given up after going throughhalf of whatJoe has gone through with his scoot.
Hang in there Joe! [sm=smiley20.gif]

Sometimes we gotta do these things one at a time, you know.I knowI don't have a ton of money to walk into a shop with a laundry list.I do it myself (even ifI did have the cash to pay some one)and sometimes a bungie or some bailing wire will have to do until it can be fixed right. Not everyone can just open up a catalouge and order parts as needed.
