It continues to confuse me. I don't understand why someone would get it in car, start it up and drive away yet they will start a motorcycle up and then let it set and warm up for 10 minutes!!!!
And when was the last time you saw a car with a manual choke (enrichener) ?????

I warm my bike up because I don'twant to have to put new headgaskets in the bike every 20,000 miles. Since the heads are not torqued down very tight the metal needs to expand (from warming up) creating a solid seal between the gasket and engine surfaces.
I know theaverage tempin Tucson, AZ is different thanin WI. My father lives in Tucson. I get to hear about the warm to hot weather down there all the time. [:@]
You may be able to get away with just jumping on and riding in cactus country, but many of us live in the frozen tundra.
No disrespect to you whaap. Just stating my reason for warming my bike before riding.
Well I don't remember saying full out on the choke at all...and who cares what it's called? Either way it does exactly the same thing, "enrichening" is "choking" they both remove a fair amount of air from the mixture to ENRICH the mixture...you say tomato, I say f*** it.
You didn't, and I didn't say you did. I did. And what I posted is the proper procedure no matter how you f**k it. Now chill while I still respect you and your bike since I am sure you have no idea who you are talking to. I recently changed my login ID. I was only pickin on you because there are a bunch of spelling douchbags floating around on here...
Proper warm up is one thing, giving a damn what it's called is another. That's my point. Besides..that was actually intended for Joseph...not you. Read his post. I probly just hit the first reply button I saw, sorry.

cars have computers that control the fuel mixture, and cmputers for detecting every kind of problem associated with cold starts and hiding them.
motorcycles are simpler machines
but the new motorcycles with fuel injection are supposed to be able to start and go, they also have computers to adjust for any condition.
but those are what i like to call "wuss bikes" haha j.k
So don't be a wuss and ride that Duc you got if you get it running, now you don't like FI bikes which actually have been around for a minute just not on the Sportster & you don't like Customs, you sure you like Sportsters?
