Have somebody interested in my bike & wanted to put the battery back in to get it ready. It cranks over but nothing else. Usually after sitting for a long time it'll chug a bit, then fire up. Nothing now. I did notice the throttle feels very stiff to twist. I put stabil in it & ran it thru before the winter as I have done for the past 5 years with no trouble. Any clues?
Thanks, Fro
Not to be a smartass but you did turn the petcock on, right? Is the throttle so stiff it won't snap back when you release it? Pull the plugs, are they wet or dry? With the plugs out, do they spark when you turn the engine over (the base of the plug has to be touching ground)?
lube all your cables, throttle, clutch, everything. take off the carb, take off the float bowl and just inspect it, spray some carb cleaner into the jets, you dont have to go all out tearing it down, just zap it with the cleaner in key areas. put it back together and put fresh gas. if it doesnt start check spark.
i have a ducati and we did everything to clean the fuel system, even as far as changing every hose and clamp, and it didnt start after. we got no spark now. another problem entirely
you could check spark first, then you will know if u should bother cleaning it out.
All set. Not sure why the cable was stiff, but I worked it few times & it's fine now. Started right up. I was freakin cuz I've had zero probs in 10,000 miles. Thanks for the replies.
It is possible you flooded it and it just needs to sit a while. Did it ever cough, sputter or belch at all? I guess you said no already. The main thing to start with is what was said before, "is there spark and gas" one is missing. Good luck. Keep at it, you'll figure it out. If you have spark and gas then drain the gas out of the tank and carb.
