Has any one changed their sprockets to get more pull . We have a 2003 883 Hugger Sportster with a voyager kit installed. When trying to go up hills it is a struggle for the 883, no matter what gear you are in. I have installed a Stage I Big Suck intalke and it has helped some. Even without the kit it lacks pull on the top end.
I'm waiting for my belt to brake before installing a Baker 26t sprocket. I have not found any aftermarket rear sprockets that are not the stock 61t sprocket.
The 26t sprocket will drop top end speed closer to 100 mph but should help off the line.
You mentioned intake. Have you done exhaust? One complements the other.
Third gear should pull good from 45 mph to 85 mph.
The exhaust mod presents a problem in that it is my wife's bike and she likes the quietstock exhaust. If there was a system that would increase the power and not the noise she might go along with it. Get her a tach.
She can then see that she needs to shift sooner?
If you don't keep the rpm above 2.5k the hills can sneak up on you & then you got to drop a couple of gears to get her up again.
Twinkies often lug their engines & then only need to drop one gear to keep the same speed. If she is arround "bigger" bikes she needs to shift differently than they do.
ps. Another option would be a longer exhaust pipe. Normally a 2 into 1. These put the exhaust note behind the driver & she may not notice the slight noise increase. It would depend on how she works the throtle. Saddlebags also help lessen the noise to the driver with a 2 into 1.
Putting on a tach was one of the first mods we did along with getting rid of the buckhorn bars. She is pretty good at shifting at 2500, but with her weight (I didn't say anything[8D]) and the added weight of the Voyager kit it can be a struggle.Your suggestion of a 2 into one exhaust sounds good and I will look into it as it would exit under the bags which are on the bike now.

She is pretty good at shifting at 2500,
She needs to keep the revs >= 3500 if you are looking for more power to pull a grade.

I may have not been clear enough. If she hits & starts up a hill at 2500 rpm she will be behind the pack and need to drop 2 gears to get "on top of the cam" at 3500+ rpm (3rd gear at 50 mph)
Tho the bike seems to shake a LOT more at 5000 rpm than at 2500 rpm it is not a problem for the engine.
