I bought my '06 1200C one day after taking the MSF course at the local dealer. They came down about $600 off MSRP.Never rode before and first bike I've ever had. I think I made adamm good choice. Plenty ofpower for the x-way and added some bags/windshield.

I bought an 883r cause I liked the Orange color and the Black motor.

Yeah, I thought I covered that with "beyond the controls and bars" and "if they had the same bars and controls".

ORIGINAL: TigerofH

I got a 1200C and the reasons I got it were price and comfort. I got it used and it was only $200 more than a new 883. I also don't fit on the 883's I'm a big guy. (6'4 240) and I just felt to cramped on the 883. The 1200 had the forward controls and I just feel as thought i have a lot more room on my 1200.
Speaking on ergonomics, beyond the controls and bars, *all* the sportsters are the exact same bike. If you were cramped on an 883 you should be cramped on the 1200 - if they had the same bars and controls.
Sounds like he is referring to the standard controls on a 883 and forward on the 1200. I would have to agree on that. I would not like my sporty as muchwithout the forward controls on the 883XLC

I bought a 2002 883r. When I first saw one at the dealership back inI fell in love with it. So in 2005 I bought one used with 1,000 miles on it and at a great price.

XLH 1200C

Because I was left standing in my own driveway on a four day weekend that was supposed to be a Harley weekend.
I didn't like the drag bars on the Street Bob ... yeah I know - but that would have taken more wait time, and I wanted what I wanted NOW.
... and black is the fastest color

I bought the 883 XLH, which is as bare bones as a sportster comes. I've always been a HP freak, so I knew I'd be mod'n the engine on no matter what scoot I got. So I saved $thousands$ on the getting the 883, and doing the engine & other mod'sthe way I wanted without paying for unnecessary crap up front. Plus, the financial situation (newly married and kid on the way)at the time alotted me an 883, and doing most of themods ( after the divorce) as I could fit them in the budget. 95% of the mods & parts came after the divorce...

Financially the 883 was my first choice, but as mentioned in numerous prior posts, I prefer the blacked out engine and the chrome.I was also advised by several people that I would likely want to upgrade to something bigger if I went with the 883. I planned on doing some 2 up riding and that also factored in.
Found mine at a local dealership - a trade in with under 1200 miles, less than 2 years old and got it for $7300. Already had the Stage I and SE IIs and had just gone thru the 1k service. I think it has plenty of power and I'm glad I went this route. Someday I'll be looking to purchase a BT, probably a Wide Glide or Softail, but for now the Sporty is perfect.

1200 just seemed to be the right size for me. The fact is that I fell in love with the 105th anniversary sportie. It's a 1200C. I knew when I sat on it that it would be my bike. Simple as that.

883. Smoother. Runs 87 octane. Classic peanut tank with Sportster decal. Plenty of power for two-up riding. Oh, and it said "Take me home" when we first met.
