I've never ridden with a windshield before. The most I've had is a sport bike fairing on my CBR, but nothing like the quick-detach model I just installed on my bike. I took it for a short test ride yesterday (about 1/2 hour). The wind protection was certainly nice, but I felt very distracted by having the windshield in front of me. Is this normal? It was so different that I am considering selling it and just buying a warmer jacket for the colder weather.
Hopefully you get a better reply than mine. I've had a windshield since owning my bike. I took it off once and hated it. I don't know how guys ride around without one.
Yes, same problem here. Takes a little getting used to when you are used to seeing the road all the way into the bike. I have found that seeings the little cracks and holes in the pavement up close can be more difficult, but have adjuster my riding to look ahead a little further. Can't beat the wind block on a cold day, or the bug splatter!
I have the quick detach model for my '06 1200C. I never take it off, although it really only helps on the highway. Wind at my chest at 45mph is nice, but it starts to lose its charm at 70mph. My biggest problem with the windshield is wind buffeting around my head with a full-face helmet. Wind noise is loud and my helmet shakes my head.
Given the pros and cons, I personally decided to go with a windshield. Everybody's different.
I bought a Q/D for mine, planning to just use it on long rides. About the only time I take it off now is when I wash the bike. Yea the bike looks better without it, but the ride is more enjoyable with it.
It was weird the first few times I rode with one, but now I feel weird when I don't have it. Give it a few more tries.
+1
I tried riding without mine recently and it was just too weird. So, the windshield stays.
It took me about 4 rides to get used to it. Just keep trying, eventually it will cease to be a distraction.
i purchased a q/d windshield, and I hated it. I look through it rather than over it.. I am short. I am thinking about having it cut down, but then i wouldn't be able to sell it.
I slide mine down to chin level, so my vision was unrestricted and it actually worked better. I could see and the buffeting was better off the top of my helmet. I like it now.
