Default CV Slide mod...Progress.

I shaved the casting marks off the slide today, scotch brited the hell out of the entire assembly and the guides to get all the crap outta there.

Basically, you just remove the slide from the carb and go along the edges with either a dremel sanding wheel or a scotch brite pad to remove the casting pits and imperfections from the edges.

After removing the casting marks it looks like this:

You then have to round the edges off to get rid of the burrs along them (which you can still see in this pic)

You don't have to polish the hell out of it, but ensure an even finish. Next you move onto the guides in the actual carb itself. Use a strip of scotch brite around a thin rod or screw driver and even the edges up to create a smoother surface for the slide to move on. I took this before cleaning it up, but you can clearly see the areas I'm talking about. It also helps to remove any casting marks you find along the way. Every little bit counts when you're working with carbs. You can see the casting marks I'm talking about below, they're rough and cause uneven flow.

Tomorrow I'm finishing it off by shaving the front and rear of the needle housing and removing some of the extra material to round it off a bit more...if you've ever seen a Thunderslide you'll know what I mean. If not...I'll have more pics and a new video up by early afternoon. I'll also snap some extra shots of the diaphragm housing and the guides for more detail. I had it all back together and while it was already an improvement, I decided I'm still not completely satisfied just yet.

Good job, you can also radius the bottom edge of the slide a little. You can also use 600wet sand paper that works real good.

Here's a helpful tip from a self-proclaimed lazy person. Although I am not sure of what it is you are trying to accomplish, if you are trying to reduce the friction as the slide moves up and down there is a much easier way that polishing the slide and the carb body by hand. Just get yourself some fine valve lapping compound, put some on the slide where it contacts the carb, work the slide by hand a little bit, clean up the mess and reassmeble the carb. Presto! Smoothe as silk. Just a lazy guys way of avoiding all that hand polishing on two parts that virtually contact each other.
