Default Shield Question

Looking for a small sporty windshield for my bike. I found this one offered from Memphis Shades.

http://www.pro1powersports.com/produ...-5280-307.html

Since its small, will it provide any protection from the wind at 60MPH+ ? I dont want anything too big and I dont want to spend the $369 that Harley's Low Pro detachablesheild costs. Whatever I decide will ultimately be detachable. Thoughts? Ideas? Let's get some opinions of the masses...thanks!

I replaced the Standard height windshield (17" tall)with theCompact windshield (15" tall) so I could look over it instead of at the top edge of it. With the shorter shield I noticea little buffering of my helmet. Based on this I would think that the 13" tall shield would probably keep some wind off of your chest but you'll probably still get a lot around your head when sitting straight. I've never ridden a bike with a 13" shield so I could be wrong.

I had a Plexifairing short on my old CX custom back in the 80's:

It wouldn't keep you warm, but it did keep the bugs and wind off of your chest. Didn't buffet you at all either.

I recently went with the Harley sport model. http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
I wanted it to be small mostly because I didn't like the visual aspects of the big ones. The trouble with this one is the buffeting, my helmut shakes quit a bit. More with my 3/4 with face shield than my modular. I'm going to still use it on long rides and take it off for going to work (15 minute ride)

I too wanted as small of a shield as possible. Bought one that was about 15 inches wide. No matter what height i adjusted it to I got a lot of buffering. I think the width is more important than the height. I personally like the look of no shield, but I pay the price with bugs and sand.

I also had the same shield as mentioned above on my 94 Sportster... Actually it came installed on the bike from the previous owner... Too me it felt more like is was directing air directly at my face and forehead.. Bugguts would actually roll up over the edge and right towards my face many times. Not good at all for rain deflection..

This time I went with the Memphis Shades slim.. detachable and probably larger then what you want but still a cool looking windshield and not as costly as the Harley brand.. Americanclassic.net has them for 189.00 complete in colors also.. 13.00 shipping.. A great deal in my opnion and equal to the Harley ones... just not chrome fittings.

Does the Memphis product leave any docking hardware on the bike? The nice thing about the Harley QuickDetachshield is everything removes when you take it off, in about 5 seconds. If looks are important to you go for the Harley, if not then the Memphis product looks like a very reasonable deal.

To the above.. Yes the Memphis Shades docking hardware does in fact remain on the fork upper tubes... but are not ugly and for the most part no one seems to notice it.

A few friends of mine who have the Harley type detachable WS are getting there forks gouged and scratched up as the Harley docking feature is like a big "claw type" clamp so they are putting tape around the forks before clamping on the windshield... another step in scratch prevention.

BTW the docking hardware left on the forks from the Memphis Shades products can easly be removed with the supplied allen wrench and a plus for the Memphis Shades is the fact that the Windshield can be adjusted not only up and down but can be tilted forwards and backwards... Don't think the Harley one can do that..

Thanks for all the info....So far from what I can tell, I like the Memphis Shades product and the Switch Blade product...Both are similarly priced so I will have to think about which one is better after further exploring them on some websites...All had very good info on this topic....

You can get the HD QD low profile from Zanotti's for $320 delivered if that makes a difference in your decision.
