Default 86 sporty ?

I'm trying to get an 86' 883 going that has sat for about five years. I've got it running good but the problem I'm having is an oil leak that I can't figure out where it's coming from. I checked the primary and it's not there and I can't figure it out. Sitting straight up on my jack it did not leak a drop but when on the kick stand it started leaking again. Any ideas??

You don't give us a clue, (left side, right side, front or back of the motor) where it's dropping oil on the floor.

I suggest that if you haven't done so, get out and scrub the bike nice and clean underneath the engine, tranny and frame area. Then park it, don't ride it, and wait for it to drip (airflow can spread the oil if you ride it). Then if you get underneath with a flashlight you should be able to tell where its coming from. Start directly above where the first oil drop hits the floor and follow the trail.

clean it all perfect, then let it sit and next day check the trail. i got a 1988, not too different from yours.

check your hoses, mine are old and worn and the connections werent tight and it caused oil to leak and travel along the surfaces of the engine and other parts till it came to the bottom. I was confused becuase my engine case itself was not leaking, all my gaskets are good.

Sorry for not giving much info. I don't have the bike at this moment. I took it to the local indy shop for some carb tuning. When I get it back I will give some more info. Thanks.

I talked with guy from the shop that is working on the bike. He thinks the oil is coming from the crank case over flow tube. Does this sound right? If so why is it happening?
