New exhaust

Howdy folks,

Do i need to run in a new bike before i can upgrade my exhaust to some V&H pipes?

I have a 2006 sportster 883. I want it to sound just a little louder. Now i was told by some person from a Harley dealership that i can take the exsiting mufflers and knock out the tabs that are in the mufflers. And then ineed to jet the carb. The question i have is i've heard from several people if i do that the sound of the bike will sound kind of tin canning. I just want something that sounds alittle louder than i have. Do i need to put on different mufflers on?Plus i don't want to spend a lot of money on this.Thanks for your feedback.
