I've been looking around for some new mufflers for the obvious reason that the stock mufflers suck ^_^
The V&H Straightshots SO's and the SEII SO's are the two mufflers I find most interesting. Now for the reason I started yet another muffler topic.
The legal sound limit for my sporty is somewhere from 99 to 101 dB. Does anyone know the sound production (at +/- 20 inch from exhaust) for:
- Stock mufflers
- SEII's
- V&H Straightshots
- V&H Straightshots w. quiet baffles
Wow, I really don't have an answer, but will note the following:
Sound is almost always measured at idle, under power (normal) and under full throttle. To get these results would require the sopheticated resources of the manufacture or major after-market exhaust company.
The best bet would be 1) go to a ralley and listen to the bikes you like. It is true, every bike seems to respond somewhat differently to exhaust modifications, but you will get an idea of what works--and what doesn't work--for you.
If you research this, please be sure to post your results. Thanks
Found out that I can actually go to the police station to get some measurements. Don't know if that's such a good idea tho ...
As for the 2 pipes... I like the looks of the SEII a bit better than the V&H, but I like the sound and the price of the V&H better than the SEII.
Problem is... I hear two different stories every time: one says SEII is legal and the V&H isn't, other says they're both not legal. -_-'
