Well I may do that. Hate to spend more money right now seeing I just bought HD moular helmet for 300. Birthday is in July so I can wait till then and get it.
On my 04 sportset. I press the oil cap down to click it. It is not flushed with the houseing. It sticks up just a little bit. This being a new bike to me I never really noticed how it was suposse to be. Is it suppose to be flush or dose it stick up just a little?
As already stated above the oil cap should be flush with the oil tank.. Believe me! I used to leave it on there not flushed (my first bike); now......I tell my friends that come to my house to just follow the oil trail that my bike left behind [:@]
The oil temp dipstick is pricey, but a good investment. It's much easier to work with than the stock pop up cap, though I never had a problem with mine. Isimply replaced it with the oil temp one because I wanted to see what temps I'm running. Being much easier to work with is a side benefit for me.
Just a word from another 883 owner who had the problem. When you turn it CW and think it's all the way, it's not. Trust me, you have to really crank it to get it all the way. when you think you haver it all the way, crank it more. It will go a little farther and then seat properly. Everyone has had this problem, so dont feel bad LOL
It should be turned and then pushed down. Also I found that if I wear one of my leather gloves on my hand it's alot easier twisting the cap than it is with my bare hand.
I too have bought the temp dipstick, however i have a question about it that I have not seen anyone bring up? Doesn't the oil temp replacement does only that......read oil temp. I did not see on the dipstick where there was a low or full line. I was in a hurry when I put in on so did I just not look hard enough or am i correct? Down to the garage to take a closer look now....
There are tiny little lines to mark the level, look really close. As long as there is a film of oil on the stick your ok. Oh and to the rider who cant get the stock oil cap to sit flush, check your rubber o ring and make sure its all the way up on the cap.
