I usually post on in the Dyna area for my Wide Glide, but I've also got an 1987 sporty I bought new and still ride occasionally and would never part with.
My Question is... when I push the bike around the garage etc. in neutral (not running), I can hear a clinking noise in the primary side/area, almost like a card in a spoke..you know a consistant timing "click" to it. I'm thinking maybe some magnets on the stator are loose or something? It's a converted 883 to 1200 and I installed myself the HD belt drive conversion kit which require a little drilling in the cases. I'm really winging it with this question. The Ol lady is getting her license and I'm just now checking it over for her safety.
Yeah, I was afraid of that. I think I'll need to pull the whole primary and not just the derby cover. I replaced the clutch cable like a dozen years ago and i seem to recall having to adjust the clutch after pulling the primary. The dealership is the last resort and I'm dying to know what the noise is. It runs great for it's age and mileage though.
