Default wheel question...

okay stock wheels sizes on my bike are:

rear: 16X3.00
front 19X2.15

wondering if I changed wheels can I go to a 16X3.50 with no problems. Stock rear tire size is 130, can I go any wider?

also front I know if I go to a larger wheel say a 21 I have to get a tire with a shorter wall, will going to a 21 drop the rear of the bike at all and will the handling suffer?

thoughts?

I have an '01 XLC with the stock 21" on the front and stock 16" rear. I like the way it handles. And I really like the way it looks too. You should go for it.

Along the same lines, if I was to go from a 21" front to a 19" front, how would that effect the bike overall, or would the loss of 2" in the wheel be made up for by additional sidewall height on the tire, keeping the front end height basically the same? And, I have read on here that the 19" wheel improves handling and tire life, and would really appreciate if someone could give me a more in depth explanation of how the smallr front wheel will effect the bike.

The overall height of the 19" is only a little bit less than that of the 21". As you said, most of the height is made up in the taller sidewall on the 19". The handling difference with the 19" is very noticeable and much improved compared to the skinny 21" tire.

Absolutely. The 21" tire is much narrower (skinnier) which results in less contact surface area with the road.

Thanks cHarley. I think I may start looking for an affordable 19" for the front then.

Can I go with a 16X3.50 on the rear, and can I go up to a 140 or 150 with the stock rear swingarm setup?
